Difference between PCI-E 2.1 and 2.0

ok, so im looking to buy a new graphics card and i was wondering if there is even a difference between 2.1 and 2.0

My mobo runs on a pci-e 2.0 and im wondering if i buy a newer 2.1 card if it will take away some of its perform since i don't have a 2.1 slot.

I already know that the pci-e slots are backwards compatible but im just wondering the difference between 2.1 and 2.0 and if it will take my perform away.

Thanks

More about difference
  1. Nope you'll be fine.

    I don't know the specific differences between PCI-e 2.0 and PCI-e 2.1 (most likely bandwidth). But a PCI-e 2.1 card is compatible with a PCI-e 2.0 slot. A PCI-e 1.x slot... well that's a different topic.

ok so the performance won't go down with the 2.1 card on a 2.0 slot
  3. no. the bandwidth is the same. i think the only difference is 2.1 has some power saving feature that 2.0 doesnt have.
