ok, so im looking to buy a new graphics card and i was wondering if there is even a difference between 2.1 and 2.0

My mobo runs on a pci-e 2.0 and im wondering if i buy a newer 2.1 card if it will take away some of its perform since i don't have a 2.1 slot.

I already know that the pci-e slots are backwards compatible but im just wondering the difference between 2.1 and 2.0 and if it will take my perform away.

Thanks

Nope you'll be fine.

I don't know the specific differences between PCI-e 2.0 and PCI-e 2.1 (most likely bandwidth). But a PCI-e 2.1 card is compatible with a PCI-e 2.0 slot. A PCI-e 1.x slot... well that's a different topic.

ok so the performance won't go down with the 2.1 card on a 2.0 slot

no. the bandwidth is the same. i think the only difference is 2.1 has some power saving feature that 2.0 doesnt have.
