Hello,

I purchased a new radeon xfx 6850 the other day to replace my HIS Iceq 5770. I have this PSU http://www.rocketfishproducts.com/products/computers/RF-900WPS.html

but i lost the pci express cable so i bought this adapter http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4311575&CatId=790

The problem is the card works for a couple minutes in Windows 7 64 bit and then i get severe artificating and eventual crash. I am wondering if the power adapter might be causing this problem and if I need to get a replacement cable for the pciexpress power cable?

My 5770 worked fine with the molex adapters but they both had 3 pins and the new adapter has 2 pins.

Otherwise the card might be defective?

Your PSU comes with PCIe card connectors, so why are you using the adapter instead of the proper connectors?

For some reason I am unable to open the lin to the adapter you are using.

Did uninstall the old system drivers before installing the new?
Did you update the video card drivers?
Can you try the card in another system to test it?
You might also run through the video card install instructions located at this site just to make sure you did not miss anything on the install:

The PSU is similar to Thermaltake PSU where it uses a male to male 6 pin cable, which I do not have and cannot get a replacement right now. The adapter i bought is a 6 pin male to a split 2 pin molex, which powers the card. I have played with the drivers and also completely erased all drivers. The card works in both x16 and x8 slots for a few minutes. I know i did not screw up the install, I am basically wondering if inadequate power supply can cause artifacting and crash. The temps remain low on the card the whole time, so I am really not sure what is going on. Like I said, both my 5770 and my nvidia 9500 work fine.
