HD 6990 vs GTX 590

Solution
1k lol no one is so stupid to put dual cards 2 and a half x more than a Gtx 580. They will go for 700usd and up
on newegg the 580's are all real close to $500 so it would only be 2x the cost of one 580 and that is a very real posibility. They could justify that wile getting the 590 will not save money over the 2 580's just based on the card costs it will require a less expensive PSU and save room in your case improving airflow and reducing heat.

We wont know untill it comes out I guess. For $1000 ill take 3 6950's though. Or after the scaling test we just saw here at toms who knows 2 6950's unlocked to 6970's and crossfired might well be a setup that will beat this $1000 solution for about $600 :)

A pair of 580's would still cost about $1000 lol and it would need more power. And wile I will never own a duel GPU card ( even for $700 lol jsut to much cash) lets say I found myself with a real nice setup that I like but only had 2 PCI slots for GPUS and wanted to do a quad fire. 4X 580's would not work so I get 2 590's I would be surprised if its $700 Nvidia cars seem to cost more than AMD cards so I dont see Nvidia Giving you a 590 for the price of a 6990. They havent lowered the 580's to $380 to match the 6970 so why would they give ppl a 590 for the price of a 6990?

talking about psus Tr2 are junk btw. Its competing with the 6990. they won't go make it way higher than the competition. They're not that dumb. They're in the gpu and money making business a long time.
They have a nice big following and Phsix on there side. Otherwise why would I or anybody else pay an extra $150 for a 580 over a 6970. they do perform better but only about 10FPS on average. And when you play games that require a bit more RAM its even closer than that. So they do tend to price there cards much higher and they seen to get ppl to pay the higher prices just fine.

Just gotta know where to look :)
$800 ish wont be to bad as long as it doesnt require alot more power than the 6990. And it better perform alot better than the 6990 for the extra cash. Seems with AMD's improved scaling the duel AMD card might make up some ground on the duel Nvidia card that should perform better.

physx is old and junk and so yesterdays X87. Today there's hardware mpe especially in video editing. A thing Amd don't support as much as nvidia gpus do. So two of these babies will speed up work or 1 by a lot.

10fps at 1080p how much at 1600p and higher?
Im willing to bet that Nvidia dose not do most of there GPU business at those resolutions. Fist of all most ppl who use more than 1 screen most likley go with AMD because EYEfinity does not require more than one card. Also most ppl dont have a screen that goes past 1080p. Then there is the fact that the higher resolution you go the more vid mem you need giving the 4gb 6990 an advantage over the 3gb 590. Also in toms scaling tests the gap was getting wider as the resolutong went up so 1600p might well be even less than 10 FPS making the card even less attractive :)

Eyefinity vs 3d = Amd vs nvidia
3x monitors with 1 card. But I believe 1 6970 can pull 3 x 1080p monitors. Can they? So you need two actually. 1 Gtx 580 can pull 2 monitors. Two can pull 3.

Otherwise get a projector for cheap wall size gaming
Dont know if one 6970 can pull 3 1080p will never know ( hate the damn bezels) But if your looking at 6990 VS 590 then with 6990 you can pull 5 screens. Dont think thats going down with the 590 lol If the 590 is $799-$850 and gets 15-20FPS more than the 6990 then its a good buy If its $900-$1000 or does not get more than 15FPS than the 6990 = waste of cash unless you want to go with 3D or physx.

I'll just stick with my XFX 5970 Black Edition, I still haven't played anything it can't handle maxxed. I'll probably upgrade in around 12 -18 months in which the price of the 6990 / 590 will be more sensible.

i bet by that time it is more sensible to get either GTX680 or HD7970

Based on that price and the review here at toms it seems the 590 and 6990 are both good choices based on what games you play and possible PSU limitations. :)
