I5 2500k Right Temps?

Hey,
I just replaced my thermal compound on my stock intel cooler with AS5, I've been running it in TF2 for a little while and I get 98C across the board. I know its supposed to cure for a little while, but 98C off the bat seems a bit high, what do you guys think? Thanks

98C?! That's WAY too high on a stock fan! Did you OC? Or did you consider the reading to be off by, well, a lot? If not, I would get a cheap aftermarket fan and some thermal compound.

The reason I went to reapply thermal was because it was getting these temps before. I don't OC. People say hyper 212 is good, but I don't know, if I'm getting one any ways why don't I just get nhd14 or h80 with changed fans, that way I can future protect a bit as well.

Im using a 212+ and i5 2500k. Even in turbo mode after about 2 hours of gaming I only reach about 70c. I idle at 32. You have a faulty chip or something.

I'd check to make sure you're not viewing in F rather than C. My i5-2500k, overclocked to 4.4 barely tips 119*F. 98*C = 208*F, which is about where the mobo will shut off to protect from damage. What are you using to check your temps?

I'm using Realtemp, HWMonitor, and SpeedFan, all 98. And the idle is worse than before. I used to idle 50, now I idle mid 60s. How do I know my chip is faulty?

Reseated again, this time using card method to spread, getting mid to high 30s now. Good spread really does make big difference.

Give thermal paste a few days to break in. Temperatures should drop below slightly more.

What is the "card method to spread" ? What do you mean by that?
Maybe refer to a guide?

Just do a search for thermal compound card method. Use a card to spread out paste instead of using heat sink to press down. That way you can make sure you get a even and wide coverage.

hmm I'm at 30-33 ambient temps but idle is around 40-50c, perhaps because I ran lots of active background apps.
