Upgrading from AMD to Intel

Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Upgrading from AMD to Intel

Word :    Username :

Hello,

At the moment I have a computer with a AMD processor and AM3 socket processor.

Would it be possible to upgrade my computer from AMD to Intel by replacing the motherboard and processor and still use my current PSU, graphics card and RAM.

Current Specs:
Phenom II X4 970
Asus M4A87TD/USB3
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Corsair TX 650W

Thank's a lot for the quick response, any specific motherboard and CPU you would recommend?

At the moment I am looking at:
Asus P8P67 Pro R3 Motherboard and Intel Core i5 2500K processor.

That combo is pretty good, mate i live with using exact same build. i5-2500k is wicked performance and not that expensive atm, most people would recommend it for a gaming build. As for mobo it's pretty good one unless there's some certain feature you really want you will be happy with it.

You can change the mobo and CPU but I wouldn't call an Intel CPU an upgrade... <LOL>

would be nice if we could have forums that where devoid of bias, where people just judged products upon thier performance instead of having favortism towards any particular company. fact is, clock for clock, the intel product outperforms the ageing amd arcitecture. yes it's more expensive, but that's because it's a better modern cpu. people should try doing research on products & forming intelligent opinions based on performance figures. buy what is currently best for your needs, don't just instantly go for the same company that you bought from before.

i honestly wouldnt bother, you already have a fast phenom II x4. Do you even know why your upgrading? you should be able to play any game smoothly with that rig. You will also have to reinstall windows if you do a motherboard swap like that.

Yes you can...
However, I disagree it is an upgrade though...

I have a 965BE, I just changed my HD5770 to HD6950, still can run crysis 2, at 42fps all maxed out

not to mention those CPU's are made for overclocking and can get to 4ghz pretty easy.
