Usb to serial port

i have a usb port in my computer but no serial port. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a usb to serial port adapter or cable that i can plug into my usb port so i can use a serial port device. if someone could please tell me if such a component actually exsists and if so, approx. how much it would cost and where i could purchase it from.
