Processor upgrade questions

Hi all i was looking to upgrade a pc i just bought from a local guy, has nice card and enough ram for me just wanted to up the processor if i could get something better heres some stats



current cpu: AMD phenom 9500 quadcore @2.2ghz
Socket AM2+ (940)

board: Asustek model M3A78-CM

think thats all you need let me know if u need more i will be gaming on this so please lemme know a list of possible upgrades not just one dont care if its duo core id probly rather have a duo if its faster

How much did you buy it for? You're really restricted with your upgrades. Your motherboard only supports: Phenom FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2. That's probably one of the best cpu for what your motherboard allows. If you do want to upgrade then you will have to purchase a new board. You also need to know what graphic card(s) card you have in your rig. For $200 upgrade, I would go with the i3-2100 for $125 and a H61 or H67 motherboard around $75. If you want AMD's alternative, I would get a Phenom II X4 955 for $120 and a AM3 motherboard for around $80.

i have a evga 8600gt and 550w ps

if i was going to upgrade new board then i would want i5

also i traded a xbox360 for this =p


I would just like to know the fastest i could put in this any 3ghz or higher?
