I cant seem to make a decision and need some advise.
Let me first say, I do not game at all.
I just want to have 2 dual monitors potential of 3, that are capable of playing different 1080p video simultaneously if need be. I currently have 2 24" 1080p monitors (hdmi/dvi), i7 2600k, 2 x16 (x8x8) slots.
I have been looking at just a basic HD 5450,
or Dual 5450
or HD 5670 XFX HD-567X-YNF3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
In all reality I will probably never have 2 or 3 simultaneous 1080p videos playing. I just want the capability.
Also, I mainly use linux (ubuntu and mint) but also windows 7 and vista.
And I would like this to be as quiet as can be. (hence 5450 thoughts)
I would go with the upcoming AMD 6790 which is supposed to be coming out on April 5. It should take care of your needs without breaking the bank. Probably will end up around $120-140.
Last week I actually ended up getting a HD 5770. I have had my new i7 Sandy setup sitting around for about a couple months and finally got a motherboard a couple weeks ago. There were no responses to this and I saw the 5770 on sale for $90 and figured it would satisfy my needs.
After reading about the 6790, it is compared to be the next step for the 5770 (the numbers don't really make sense to me). It is supposed to be a little faster, 256bit, but draw a little more power. Due to the fact I don't do any gaming, want the quietest and most cost effective GPU for Dual/Triple 1080p displays, would the 6790 be more beneficial than my 5770 for the extra 30-50$?... or do I already have all/more than I need?
