Hows this? (First time build)

Im off to university in september so im trying to build a computer thats going to last the full 3 years of my course without any upgrades, since my laptop just failed on me. I cant really say a main use for this computer as it will be used for anything it can, but I am a moderate gamer so I want it to be able to run most of the newer games easily. Obviously in a year or two I may have to upgrade the GPU to suit the newer games.

More about hows this first time build
  1. That looks solid, but you should probibly get Cooler Master 212+ or Xigmatech Gaia so you can overclock your unlocked cpu. Although if you want silence go with Corsair H50.
  2. very nice even though everyone is going to tell you not the get the Zalman, and to get a cooler master or something. honestly i think its a nice choice.
  3. no, it doesnt look like you were right.

Jamesxd: Do you plan to OC or add a second 6870 at a later date? The one thing i would change is the PSU, you can do better for around the same price, although which one would depend on your needs.
  4. It's hard to not recommend the Hyper 212+; it's great and about $20 less than the average cooler.

    ^+1 concerning the PSU.
  5. I do plan to overclock and ive already got a Cooler Master 212+. I dont think I will be planning on adding a second 6870 just yet but its nice to have the option in the future.

and btw what psu would you change it too?

    cheers guys
  6. You'll need more wattage. I'd say about 650W minimum on a reliable PSU (Corsair, XFX, Antec). I had an Antec EA650 that ran an i7-930 and 2 GTX 470s.
  7. haters gonna hate. and if you gonna add another card later then get something a little better. the XFX 650 would be good. its modular and 80 plus bronze i believe. it should suffice.
  8. jamesxd listed a zalman case, doginpants recommended a coolermaster CPU cooler. no one has said anything about the zalman case. no one is hating.
