I am upgrading my system with a very tight budget, the planned final shape would be (in ~6 months):-
(Prices converted from PKR to USD at 1 USD = 85 PKR rate)

Q6600 or Q8400 ($117.64)
ASUS P5Q
2+2GB Dominator 1066 ($47.06)
HD5870 1gb ($176.47)
64gb Kingston V100 ($123.53)
500gb WD Green

I have planned to buy a psu in this week or so and the following as it seems are my only choices:- (Budget: $76.47)
From worst to best as I see them;

($44.71) (12 months warranty) CM Extreme Power 500W
($62.35) (12 months warranty) CM Extreme Power 600W
($55.29) (10 months warranty) ThermalTake LitePower 500W
($65.88) (10 months warranty) ThermalTake LitePower 600W
($58.82) (12 months warranty) Antec Basic Power 500W
($70.59) (10 months warranty) Antec EarthWatts 500W
($76.47) (12 months warranty) CM GX 550W

I don't have a psu right now so I really require one... Please suggest, if possible I don't wish to buy the GX...

First of all AMD is the most expensive brand here in Pakistan, if it wouldn't have been, how an AMD fanboy like me would have an intel machine...

If bulldozer pulls out to be faster than core i7 only then I can hope the phenom IIs will get cheaper than 2nd gen core i5s.

So Earthwatts it is then...

I think you should go on with cm extreme 500w. It is a good psu unit with good efficiency and it is the cheapest among the others. IT also good for your system compared to antec psu. Check out this link http://www.coolermaster.com.my/product.php?product_id=3738&category_id=27. Good luck ;0

I had a CM 600W, never had problems with it... It was an old one didn't had an EPS connector.

Somehow there are no Corsair 500W units available nowadays...

Corsair 600W unit is for $94.11...

Thanks for your suggestions...

If it was the Silent Pro M 600W then that is one of the few series that CM have released which was top quality.

Seeing as the other Seventeam built Cooler Master GXs (650 and 750) were poorly reviewed I don't see how the 550W version can be the best option available. Unless it is completely unlike its two older brothers, which I've seen nothing but anecdotal evidence for.

The 600W unit was a Extreme Power Duo... Yeah that bad one...

GX-550 doesn't have very good reviews like Antec's units have, even the budget ones have great reviews, I don't get as to how they profit from such good units with only sacrificing cosmetics...

@benikens Imagine a AMD Athlon II X4 620 for $152.94 with only 1 year warranty... The Phenoms are no less than $220
