Hi all ... new to this website however I have heard great things.
I currently have a MSI G31 TM -p21 mother board with intel celeron E3400 chip and 2 gigs of ram. The mother board will take 8 gigs however it is set up for ddr2. Any suggestions on a new processor( lga775 chipset) and ram that will allow me to get a semi high end gaming rig out of this motherboard? Also side note I am in the market for a new graphics card as well currently I am using a Ati radeon hd 4850 512 mb. As you can see i just threw parts together from random computers at my disposal but now that i have some money set aside I would like to upgrade. Thank you in advance for helping.

Couple questions: budget, games you play, resolution of your monitor?

IMHO you should consider upgrading the CPU to a faster dual core or quad core, and also bump the memory to 4GB. A LGA775 system can be respectable, but just not with the E3400 or 2GB of memory. Also, the HD 4850 is still going to hold its own so this may not be worth the upgrade at this time. Upgrade the CPU and MEM and start saving for a new build in the near future...

my budget for cpu and ram is in the $400 range less the better though...i play wow, rift sc2, and with swtor coming out soon lol i hope. As for res its at 1920/1080 thats at recommended settings not sure how to see if there is room to go higher.
edit i also have an amd hd 9550 pcu would it be better to build off of this and get a new motherboard ?

An AMD Phenom x4 9550? Sorry your post is hard to decipher. For under $400 you could upgrade to an Intel Core i3 2100- $125, Gigabyte Z68 D3 motherboard- $120 and 4Gb of DDR3 ram, either Adata- $42 or GSkill Ripjaw X- $47. Total comes to $292 and transfer the rest of your system over (Case, psu, gpu,HDD) and you will see a large improvement. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-cpu,295... Shows that the i3 2100 is about six levels above the Celeron 3400
