I like Ati though I have had some good nvidia
Personally I would pick a HD 5770 if I was you
or maybe HD 5670 if power supply is not so good

also a nvidia 4xx series is nice especially the GTX460 though it is about
$160

Get the 768m version of the GTX 460, there are some for $130 after rebates on newegg. And get another 2gb or ram while you're at it.

It's slightly slower than the 768m 460 and a little more expensive, although it does use less power....

Bigger is obviously better, but it's not the most important factor in performance. You're better off looking at real world benchmarks of games you want to play and not theoretical bandwidth.

Yes you can buy an ATI card, it makes no difference what chipset your motherboard is.

the nvidia 9500 gt is about as good as you can go with the PCI expressx16 1.0 because that technology is fading out almost completely now(on terms of quality names like evga, asus, etc creating cards)
