ive got a radeon hd 4850 that keeps shutting my pc down after a couple of minutes of gameplay. i was told it could be the psu that was causing the problem so i replaced my 350w unit with a 700w unit but the pc still shuts down. my gpu runs at about 95c and i am told thats quite normal for a hd4850. i replaced an 8800gt for the radeon because of the same problem. my cpu temp averages at about 30c.

More about : psu gpu shuts

95c isn't normal. Make sure it's not crammed with dust.

90 centigrade, normal after 2 minutes? Certainly not!
You replaced a 350w unit with 700w of power for the sake of an HD4850? Waste, what model and brand is your new power supply? Please give the rest of your system specification.

hello, i replaced the old psu with an alpine 115/230v unit and ive got an intel quad core cpu and 4 gig of ram. i dont want to spend money on a new gpu unless necessary.

Clean the card, if that doesn't work you can try removing the heat sync and replacing the thermal paste, if that doesn't work you will probably have to replace it.

I've never heard of Alpine other that as a Car Audio supplier. Even a 700w unit would still be suspect in my opinion.
