Chris A. may like the less noise but you can see that 9 of the revievers burned
their cards while testing. some even didnt touch the voltages...

i havent seen a situation like this in video card review history so far...

check out the links for the burned gtx590's

the problem is the weak VRM's. overclocking on this card would be a Russian Roulete

NVIDIA has distributed a reponse. Apparently the reviewers were not using the drivers they had been supplied, and despite repeated warnings, continued to push the cards far past their recommended specifications

not really guys. some burned card revievers had the latest drivers.
ITS THE VRMS THAT ARE WEAK ON GTX590 MANY REVIEVERS SAYS THIS
IT IS NOT A DRIVER ISSUE...YOU WILL SEE MORE BLOWN UP CARDS SOON I BET

well its good to turn sides once in a while. i had gtx480's last year and now 6950@70 crossfire. AMD did improve their drivers incredibly especially for xfire.

5xxx series had alot of Xfire issues (same here 5870xf and 5970) and microshuttering
but 6000series does alot better interms of both.

Meh, every one of those articles thats in english says they overvolted the card beyond what the new drivers are supposed to allow when the card failed. This is unlikely to be an issue for consumers. Bad press won't help sales though.

Heh, it's quiet because it stops working :p. Seems like the problem lies in the power circuitry. If that's the case I certainly would blame the reference design. Shame on ASUS though for allowing such a crazy setting (1.2v) on the reference card with reference cooling. It's harder to blame AMD for their vacuum cleaner 6990 when at least it's not blowing up :D. Really though it would be wise for AMD to allow quieter non reference 6990s so long as they don't go burning up like GTX 590s
