I don't have much of a grasp on memory latency and speeds when it comes to CPUs and boards.

If I get a board like this for my AMD Phenom II X4 955 black with plans to overclock, what kind of RAM should I put in there for best value and performance?

Maybe someone might have recommendations for another board? I'm looking for fairly low costs. I have no plans for using more than one PCIe card. I also don't think need more than 8GB of RAM.

I've been successfully overclocking my CPU on my current board for close to 3 years at 3.8 GHz. About a month ago a capacitor and/or transistor (both are crispy now) spouted a nice jet of fire. Since then I've stopped overclocking it (to be safe), but am experiences BSDs and micro lockups every now and then.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Your cpu limits ram to this

Integrated DRAM Controller with AMD Memory Optimizer Technology
■A high-bandwidth, low-latency integrated memory controller
■Supports PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066); PC2-6400 (DDR2-800), PC2-5300 (DDR2-667), PC2-4200 (DDR2-533) or PC2-3200 (DDR2-400) SDRAM unbuffered DIMMs – AM2+
■Support for unregistered DIMMs up to PC2 8500(DDR2-1066MHz) and PC3 10600 (DDR3-1333MHz) – AM3

The highest speed I see here is ddr3 1333 so we have your speed...now to buy...

The middle one is AMD's own performance ram and it has the lowest cas at 8 whereas the other two's cas is 9 but any of these are rock sold performers and all have lifetime warranties...crucial ballistic's ram is legendary...the corsair xms is also awesome...the AMD's ram is new but the reviews are excellent.

Any one will perform very well for your needs...the motherboard you chose is excellent.

Good luck
