Why would you go with the i7-970 and LGA 1366 instead of the more powerful and cheaper i7 2600K and LGA 1155?

What is the main use of your build?

The rest of your build is very good, but unless you have a specific task that calls for the older processor the second generation processor (Sandybridge) is much better designed and more bang for the buck.

i wanted to go with the i7-970 because it was a six core processor, i'm planning to OC'ing to around 4Ghz if i can and figured the extra cores might help

it going to be a gaming rig mainly, but i'm gonna run Avid media composer, and Photoshop on it, im a communications major and my laptop is really holding me back in terms of what i want for overall performance from my routine tasks and my recreational gaming.

Ok heres an option then, if i changed cpu's and hence motherboards as well i'd scratch the old memory and build it around this stuff here instead, do you think that running the sound card and network card to pick up the slack i'm losing from dropping the sniper board is equivilant ?
