Upgrading 9800GT

Internetz I need your expertise :) recently my Graphics card began acting up and now its unusable, basically broken. Good news is its time for an upgrade. (I live in the UK)

BUDGET RANGE: GBP £100-£150 (Obviously would prefer to not break the bank but if needs be I could invest a little more - especially if it offered worth while longevity)

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, new games including Shogun 2 Total War and various recent FPS games such as Metro 2033 and Call of Duty (Eye candy)

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: Nvidia GeForce 9800GT DDR3 512MB and 500W (Model ZOO-6500HGP)

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: Operating System = Vista, BIOS = Phoneix-Award BIOS v6.00PG, CPU = Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q8400 @ 2.66 GHZ (4 CPUs) ~ 2.7GHZ

OVERCLOCKING: Maybe (would need explaining - as it would be first time for me)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Essentially I'm looking for a decent upgrade on my old card that will allow me to enjoy the latest games in the next few years. But I'm open to any suggestions of other component upgrades which may be worth considering.

Thanks in advance

More about upgrading 9800gt
  1. I would recommend this gpu it's great value to performance and has a great cooler this link is from scan.co.uk but you could find it anywhere.http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-msi-gtx-460-hawk-3600mhz-gddr5-gpu-780mhz-shader-clock-1560mhz-336-cores-2x-dl-dvi-i-mhdmi
  2. Thanks for the recommendation, I've had a little look around and I was considering this card http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-msi-gtx-460-oc-3600mhz-gddr5-gpu-725mhz-shader-clock-1450mhz-336-cores-dldvi-i-hdmi-d-sub

its £30 cheaper than the 460 version you suggested - is the difference in performance worth the extra cash?

    N460GTX-MD1GD5/OC - 1GB MSI GTX 460 OC, 3600MHz GDDR5, GPU 725MHz, Shader Clock 1450MHz, 336 Cores, DLDVI-I/ HDMI/ D-Sub
    1GB MSI GTX 460 HAWK, 3600MHz GDDR5, GPU 780MHz, Shader Clock 1560MHz, 336 Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/ mHDMI

FYI my actual resolution is 1280 by 1024 and not 1024x768
  3. i would go for this at that res it should handle everything maxed out no problem and it below you budget i would also search on ebay and try and get one a cheap as you can but i dough yo will get one for less that this

  4. HD5750 or GTS450.

That power supply of yours' isn't very impressive.
