Sony Vaio pcg-frv37 shutting down suddenly

Hi,

I'm trying to help out a friend who has a Sony Vaio pcg-frv37 laptop
that will run for awhile, then it will shutdown by itself suddenly.

When I can, I've scanned for spyware using Adaware, and that cleaned up
a bunch of stuff. I also did Windows update which worked fine, but when
I tried to run Norton AV, it shutdown while it was scanning (this might
have just been a coincidence), so I couldn't even complete that.

While the machine is running, the fan seems to be running fast (loud),
and when it shuts down, the fan stops also.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
