Crysis 2 run on max on my Q6600? + 560 Ti

I want to run Crysis 2 on my Q6600 OC at 3ghz. Is it possible? My graphic card, when I buy it, will be a 560 Ti, especially after see those nice benchy from this site.

My original plan was getting a 2500k, and going all out on the OC, but I won't make much use of all that CPU speed anyways, so I don't see the point in upgrading to sandy bridge since Crysis isn't so demanding on the CPU (i think...) $500+ saved right there.

I rather spend the extra money on SSD for the loading time, or SLI the 560 Ti (but probably not SLI because of the cpu bottleneck)

I will be playing at 2560x1600.

The only other game I'm playing is Starcraft 2, I CAN tolerate the CPU lag on that though.

I also want to be ready for Duke4, but I'm sure if I can handle Crysis 2, then I can handle that game too.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

I doubt it.At 2560x1600 it will put a serious strain on the graphics card.If you can get the 2G version of the GTX560.You should also try O.C.ing a little bit more.3.3 or 3.4ghz should help out a lot.

yah, i might have to consider the 2GB version. There is only one on newegg right now, but it has good ratings. I hope evga makes one too. OR i could sli a pair of 550 Ti, which doesn't cost much more. However, I don't know if a pair of 550 Ti will utilize the 2GB with the cards combined.

EDIT: yah seems like it's 550 Ti SLI for now, it can definitely hold at high resolution. It even out performs 580 GTX on a few benchmarks.

I would rather have a sinlge GTX560 and wait till i can buy another than have x2 550's.It's really worth it to wait until you can buy the other.

You could however get a 6950.For the same price you can get that extra gig of ram and it will still perform better overall than the GTX560.Not to mention you can flash it over to a 6970 if you learn/know how

I wasn't considering anything AMD, but this 6970 unlock thing is very tempting. Guess I'll be ditching nvidia after four generations of upgrades. My last Radeon card was a ATI 9700 Pro!

yeah even the 580 struggles with crysis 2 at that rez getting about 35 fps average. You can expect to play the game on advanced which is a notch below max.Honestly though I have played crysis 2 and there is no difference between all 3 modes. They all looks same.Personally I would play on the lowest setting and get high fps as even on max it dosnt look better than the lowest setting

Like it's been said before your q6600 will limit you from obating higher FPS but it wouldn't play such a huge factor with Crysis 2.Crysis 2 seems to matter more on GPU than CPU performance. And i have a feeling that when BF3 comes out it will turn out the same as Crysis 2 since it's been turned into a Console port.Graphics really go down the tube when it's console ported.

Actually crysis 2 also requires A LOT of cpu power.I played crysis 2 on my gtx 275 paired with a core i7 870 at 1680X1050 and throughout my playing time the cpu usage was constatntly above 80%for all cores.Strangely hyperthreading also improved my performance. The only game apart from crysis 2 to stress my cpu that much was gta 4.My point is that crysis 2 requires a balance of cpu and gpu power

Are you gonna go with the 6950?

I just got the 6950 yesterday, and unlocked it. It seems to handle Crysis 2 with 30-35 fps on average, and a tad less than that on Crysis 1. Both games are maxed out at 2560x1600, with 2x aa on Crysis 1. I am so far VERY impress especially with the low noise level compared to my old 280 GTX SLI setup. I will overclock it soon!

Definitly consider a CPU upgrade.Crysis 2 benifits from a fast CPU.
