Hi all! I'm looking for some new DDR2 RAM as one of my current sticks has died...I'm either going to get 667MHz (which is what I currently have) or 800MHz and replace the remaining stick.

I had 4GB 667MHz (now only 2GB!) and I've got a Q9650 on an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo running Win7 64-bit. Would I be better getting 667MHz as its 1333MHz FSB or is it just better to get the 800MHz RAM? I might OC slightly in the future, been told it's quite easy to get to 4GHz, but at present just running stock speeds.

I'm planning on getting the RAM from and it's the same price for 667 or 800MHz. Finally, would it be better to get 2x4GB sticks or 4x2GB sticks?

Thanks! David

If you get a 800Mhz stick it will be slowed down to match the present 667Mhz stick so if you plan on getting another 800mhz stick in the future you could get one now otherwise just get another 667mhz.
I'm not sure if it's better to have 2x4 or 4x2 but I'd get the cheapest one since you'll probably want to upgrade your system in the future and DDR2 is kind of dead now

Hi, thanks for your reply! I probably won't be upgrading my system any more for a long time...maybe in time for DDR4!! So, as they're both the same price, would the 800MHz give me better ability to OC in the future?I have 4 slots so I could get 2x4GB and they, maybe, get a further 2x4GB in the future. Was just asking about 2 or 4 sticks to make up 8GB as it's cheaper to get the 4x2GB sticks rather than the 2x$GB but the cheaper option would use all of my slots.

Any furtherthoguhts are highly welcome! David
