hi everyone,

im upgrading my video card from a gtx 260 to a gtx 560ti

will this PSU work reliably for my Rig?

here is a link to a review of the psu, http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=...
included are pictures of the rails amperage and the users review.
if you dont want to look at the link i can tell you the rails are 22a/22a/25a. and it is a 650w Antec psu.

my current gtx 260 requires 525w 38a(according to the box it came in)
and the new gtx 560ti requires 500w 30a.
in my mind it requires less power overall and i should be able to throw in the 560ti and have no issues.

one more thing i am confused about is this.
i have posted on multiple forums this question and i am hearing a variety of different opinions. some saying that the rails need to be 30a each minimum for the video card, and another post said the load is shared between the 2 rails i am plugging into the card(im am using rails 2 and 3 22a/25a)

AMD Phenom II x4 (920)
4 gig mushkin 1066 (DDR2) 5-5-5-15
7200 rpm seagate 1tb
7200 rpm seagate 500gig
1 dvd/rw drive
1 multimedia drive
coolermaster HAF 932 case

if u need any other info let me know :)

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

Since your new GPU has a lower power requirement than your current one, there is no problem at all. Go ahead and do it. Antec, like Corsair, is a good brand of PSU.

would you be able to explain how watts and amperage(between rails) works?

and thanks a bunch for the warm greeting XD

well that was a very informative thread. and thanks again for your help.
if i had known this forum was so friendly to newcomers i would have joined long ago!

in that thread it doesnt say whether the multiple rails connected to a single component will share a load. to me being a fairly new computer enthusiast this sounds reasonable. i would think that it would make sense for multiple rails to share a load so that a single rail would not get "shorted" or "overloaded" and also so PSU's would be more adaptable to a wider variety of components, maybe im wrong but it seems logical to me.

I would offer that *some* Antec and *some* Corsair PSU models are good and other models not so much. Read the PSU reviews from reputable sites before purchasing a problem PSU model.

Thanks Been, i actually bought this PSU when i built this computer(my first btw) and was told it was a decent PSU for upgrading and it was a great brand name. so far it has been the best ive ever owned(and only) but since ive had no brown outs(maybe because i dont overclock) and this PSU has been rated for up to a GTX 580 i am confident i made a good choice.

and since i just bought my gtx 560ti superclocked about 2 hours ago, i may as well go along with it. :)
