I'm looking for an LCD 18.1" - 19" for gaming. It must be silver or blue (or both) in colour. We're not talking UT2003 or CS response time here but online gaming that requires a good response time nonetheless - I don't wanna see those trails!!!

All I've come across so far are:

Hercules Prophetview 920 (looks great, specs seem a lil shoddy tho)
Sony - various models (but I've read a *lot* of bad reviews of sony displays)

Any advice? Is the only way to avoid those trails to go CRT?

there is also the Samsung 191t to bare in mind, for me that's probably the best 19" LCD monitor out there....although it's still not fast enough for me, as i would need it for UT2k3.....it comes in silver or black.

Iiyama do a very good 19" LCD too. in ivory or black, but who cares about colours when you'll have such a nice monitor?

I'm still using my trusty Iiyama 17" CRT, sniff although it looks great :)

That Samsung 191t sure is a beautiful bitch, but noticeable blurring in CS kinda scares me away - and that's supposedly at <25ms. Does this mean only 16ms will do, or is that still gonna create trails?

i don't own a LCD monitor, (I'm looking, just like you) so i can't be sure, but from the reviews, even at 16ms you can notice trailing.....but it's very minor.

the 191t has a 25ms (typical) response, which means at times the response could be a bit higher, like 30...people say it's no good for gaming, i wish it were as it looks so nice.

Its replacement, the Samsung 192t is coming out endof Q2-Q3 this year....it should have a much better response and colour reproduction, and apparantly a different bazal....I'd prefer it if they kept the same super slim bazal personally.

Hmm, unfortunately I don't think I can wait til Oct on my dying 17" CRT ;)

Just been checking another thread:

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/ce/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=13196#13196

And there's a great 16ms Aluminum Acer Model: Acer AL732

http://www.acer.co.uk/vi/page0.jsp-page79,,1,17,,,95,,,,,,,,,2152,,,,,,,,,,,95,17,,17,17,,,,17,,,,17,,,,17,,,,,,,,,,,17,,,0,0,17,,2395075029.htm

Unfortunately this is only 17" but I could probably live with that - especially (as someone else in the thread also mentioned) it would go great with my Cooler Master 210 :))

Anyone heard anything on the availability of this in the UK? All references outside of official Acer sites aren't in English.

i have a CoolerMaster ATC-201SX, those guys make great cases!

seeing as you have a 17" CRT now, remember that a 17" LCD will actually get you a larger viewable area,
as 17" CRT's only have 16" viewable - but LCD's have the whole panel (17") viewable.

I've had a look around for you, and i can't find that acer on sale in the UK....although i bet you it has the same panel as the hitachi....there aren't that many 17" panels being made with 16ms response times....

I have also been looking around in the UK for a nice 17" or 18" and it all comes down to the Iiyama, Nec or the Hitachi.
1> Hitachi CML174SXW
2> Iiyama AS4314UTG
3> NEC LCD1700NX

Now these are the ones i have been looking, but they are 17" and i think they have better specs for gaming etc than a 18".
The Hitachi has received many great reviews, the one was on tomshardware and here is the link for the other.

Now i have seen more reviews, but none of the other screens i have seen or heard about are rated this good.

yeah, for me personally, i'd love to get the Hitachi, and i've got the money, but my Iiyama CRT still looks good, even after nearly 5 years of use, (i bought it in August 1998)

I think I'm going to wait for the Samsung 192t....6 months or so....although the lack of space on my little desk may precipitate getting that CML174SXW.....it is the best 17" no question about it.....

Although if you watch a lot of movies on your LCD. then the Samsung 172W is a widescreen LCD monitor, not bad?

i must sound like a samsung rep....i'm not i promise :) Long live Hitachi and Iiyama too! :)

Hmm.... I guess I shouldn't be surprised that it comes back to the CML174SXW - though black or biege wasn't exactly what the g/f had in mind...

Iiyama seem to have a solid rep to me, but again, it's black, and I see no reason to choose the AS4314UTG over the CML174SXW, especially when it's response time is 20ms as opposed to the hitachi's 16.

The NEC LCD1700NX seems a bit of an oddity - and NECs website is absolutely awful. Can't seem to find a response time for this, though some of the other LCDs in the same range look pretty good, although again in black, and I doubt there's a reason to choose it over the hitachi.

Arrrghhh! Unless that elusive Acer shows up I guess there is little hope of getting everything required! Maybe I should go shop for CRT's and mount it in a wall or summink! lol

after a very all-out research and a interview from Hitachi
finland personel...i decided not to take Samsung 191t because of the 25 ms response time...so i bought Hitachi 174
with 16 ms and its great even with UT2003 and 1942:Road To Rome....i had 19" crt and 174´s viewable area is allmost
same as in the 19" crt...but!!!! eventough i had in the 19" crt 100hz it made my eyes tired...but not any more :)
folks!!! just buy the Hitachi and when a 19" tft with 16ms or under response time arrives...THEN lets think again...
