Hello everyone.
I will be getting a vostro 1500 laptop with a geforce 8600 gt video card. the processor will be upgraded to support CPU-intensive video games (supreme commander). there are 2 processors that i could get, a t9300 (2.5 ghz, 6mb l2 cache, 800 MHz bus speed) and the x7800 (2.6 ghz, 4mb l2 cache, 800 MHz bus speed). is the larger cache size worth the slower core speed? both of these are about $80. or, would it be better to spend another $60 and get the x7900(2.8 ghz core speed, 4mb l2 cache, 800 MHz bus speed.) or to spend $200 on the x9000 (2.8 ghz core speed, 6 MB l2 cache, 800 MHz bus speed)

t9300 $72
x7800 $80
x7900 $160
x9000 $200

which one would be the best?
the laptop's gpu is a 128 bit, 575 MHz, 700mhz memory, 256 MB video ram, seen it get 46 fps on crysis.

I have been running the x7900 in this system:

Dell Vostro 1500
Intel Extreme x7900
4 gig ram
Nvidia 8600m gt

From my experience I would steer clear of the 65nm processors and go with one of the 9xxx processors. I am going to be swapping out my processor fairly soon for one of the Penryns because, while the Vostro can handle the heat profile of the Merom processors, the Penryn just puts less stress on your system. That little fan in your lappy is going to be running on low constantly, working to dissipate the heat, and you'll be looking at pulling it apart every couple months to keep the radiator fins clean. Get a cooler running processor, and overclock the snot out of that Nvidia instead. But that's just my opinion. :kaola:

sonds like a good idea, but how far should i overclock? i found out the gpu runs at 475, not 575 mhz. also, is there a good program for overclocking the gpu?
