Is it worth building a sandybridge machine?

Considering ivybridge is going to come out later next year, is it worth building a machine?

Ivy Bridge is expected to be released in Q3 or Q4 2012.

Right now your only concern is should you wait for Sandy Bridge - "E" to come out in Q4 this year before building your new PC. That depends on what your current PC is and if you can wait another 3 - 4 months to build your PC.

Me? I think I can wait for Ivy Bridge before upgrading my Q9450.

i guess it depends on what you already have. as said above, if you had a q9550 you probably dont need an upgrade. if you have something a bit older or dual core then yes, an i5 2500k is the best gaming chip on the market and for only $200. In the past you have never been able to get a top end gaming cpu for only $200, its insane really.

I myself already have a 2600k machine, however i wanted to build one for my school. Because I am in a multimedia class that only has 2.4ghz core 2 duo mac mini's and would like an upgrade

Same here, I'm only running a single 6970 atm and 4ghz Q9550, both balance nicely and are more than enough for games out so far IMO (1920x1080).

If Ivy manages to get 5-10% IPC increase it'll have me hooked immediately. Especially with the obvious increases in OC headroom. =]]] Almost can't wait TBH haha.
