Hello,
I have a PCI Express P17G motherboard that won't "read" any hdd. The BIOS detected the hdd just fine but I keep getting an error msg when windows wouuld begin to boot. I've tried different hdd, different cables... nothing. But when I place the hdd in a different machine, it's fine. I think it my cheap mobo. Would a flash possibly help or is this just plain dead?

Bios flash wouldn't fix a bad ide port. Could be your board won't work with a newer 80 pin ide cable, if that's what you have. The older 40 pin ide should work. Also be sure you only have one master drive connected at a time. If you have two or more drives only one can be set as "master" using the pins on the drive. The others have to be set as "slave" devices.
