Hello

Well, today i saw the unofficial BF3 requirements:

While no official announcement of minimum requirements for Battlefield 3 have been made, we do know what engine the game will be running. Frostbite 2.0. Because of this we can estimate what requirements will be expected when Battlefield 3 hits shelves.

Minimum System Requirements
Processor: Dual Core
Memory: 2 GB
Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version
Video Memory: 256 MB
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 10
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

Recommended System Requirements
Processor: Quadcore Processor
Memory: 4 GB
Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version
Video Memory: 512 MB
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 11
Keyboard and Mouse
DVD Rom Drive

Thats not even close to what i expected. :D

What do u think?

Keyboard and Mouse???? Dude, that's ridiculous.

I'm kind of dissapointed I will need a DVD drive, my computer only has a floppy, and what is this keyboard and mouse thing, why isnt it touch screen capable, I want to use my non existant iPad!

On a serious note it sounds like they are leaving Windows XP behind by requiring Dx10, which may be bad for their market but it needs to be done in general. What were you expecting for specs?

By the way does anyone else think it's wierd that we still celebrate making fun of pegans for having their new years today?

If I had to guess I'd say in order to run the game smoothly at 1080p and high settings low AA you will likely need a strong quad core and at least a gtx 560ti or similar, I'm thinking that would be a fair estimate, so I think it might be time to upgrade OP

lol talk about a balanced system, the OP has an i5 760 and an 8400gs

Thats mee :D
I was expecting some similair to:
any quad-core processor
4Gb RAM
GTX4xx or HD6xxx series

i'm pretty sure it'll need at least 512MB of video memory, 2-4GB RAM minimum and a quad-core CPU , maybe like 15GB free space, hopefully it won't be DirectX11 only
April 2, 2011 2:35:58 PM

DX10 and DX11 I believe.

OP= original poster and like I said above I would guess that you need a gtx 460/560 or higher and a good quad core to run the game at decent settings, but this is all speculation

nah, ill just get a HD5970 and enjoy the extreme graphics :D

I would highly recomend not getting that card, it has many issues, better off going with a stronger single gpu such as a gtx 580 imo

Really?

Well what would u suggest for 1-2 years further on max on 1280*1024res? :D
April 2, 2011 8:19:27 PM

I actually think it will be

Minimum System Requirements
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2.5 GHZ or better
Memory: 2 GB (XP) 3 GB (VISTA)
Hard Drive: 15 GB for Digital Version, 10 GB for Disc Version
Video Memory: 256 MB
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible
DirectX: 9
DVD Rom Drive

thats probally what they will say, however it probally wont run better then 800x600 on that LOL
they wont forsake DX9 because thats what the consoles run on, so at min it will support DX9, same with the GPU memory, min will be 256 because of consoles, the question is are they going to include a hi rez texture pack in the game so it doesnt look like crysis 2 LOL

I would say something along the lines of a gtx 460, that res is not too demanding, you can probably get away with less of a gpu, maybe even something like a secondhand gtx 260 or a 5770 should be adequate at that res but for the money id get a gtx 460 in case you decide to upgrade your monitor down the road.
April 2, 2011 8:44:10 PM

lol instead of getting a 5970, why not just get a 560ti and upgrade your monitor. it would be better in the end.

yeah a 5970 is way overkill for the OP's resolution, so is a 560 but not if he bumps up to 1080p, lcds are cheap now you can get a decent lcd for around $150, like fatsoferret said, get a gtx 560ti which is a great bang for your buck and then upgrade your monitor if you have money enough to buy a 5970, the monitor upgrade will single handedly change your expirience a lot more than you will think rather than getting an overkill gpu for a dated resolution... again, my .02c

I can get a HD5970 for about 180$ in my country from my very well known friend :)

Maybe a GTX570 would do the job? (maxing everything out on 1280*1024 with 50+ fps

April 2, 2011 9:35:49 PM

lol a gtx 460 would do the job at that res, maybe even less
April 3, 2011 3:09:32 AM

yea thats a real low resolution. I couldn't play on anything less than 1080p.
April 3, 2011 3:38:11 AM

is it just me, or does 1080p seem narrow, i like 16:10 over 16:9
a b U Graphics card
April 3, 2011 12:19:22 PM

@ this res. 460 would max out everything this year, when OCed like 2 years, but imo if you can get 6850 for the same price it'd be better, cause it OCs better with a stock cooler and is avg faster, btw 5970 is awful
April 3, 2011 3:43:31 PM

they shouldn't even be making 16:9 as monitors, 16:10 should be the pc gaming res.

Yeah it's annoying that 1920x1200 is at least twice as expensive as 1080p, but, I really don't mind 1080p. Down the road I'm thinking of going triple monitor, maybe 1440x900 flipped sideways (2700x1440) or even 1680x1050 - just depends if a beastly single card will be able to handle that when we get the 28nm cards next year.
April 15, 2011 11:36:30 PM

I hope a single 5870 will be able to run this game on decent settings.
April 20, 2011 4:11:23 AM

Do you think a GTX 590 with an i7 920 3.7 ghz will be able to max this game out and get well above 60 fps by the time the game comes out in Fall?

I would like to know the same thing. Or, better yet, would a 570 be able to run it maxed out at least 60fps? I'm trying to figure out if it would be worth it for me to buy a 570 right now to play my current games while I wait for BF3 to come out, or should I wait a while longer, let the current prices drop, and purchase something better for the same price I'd pay for a 570 currently?

Well, considering how CPU bottlenecked BC2 was, I fully expect a quad core to be "mandatory" for anything above medium settings.

As for a 570 maxing BF3, a 570 paired with an OC'd 2600k doesn't even max BC2 @ a steady 60 FPS, so I doubt it will max BF3. Probably 35-40+ FPS steady, but not maxed...

You'd have to ask someone working on the game who has tested it out to know the answer to that.
April 20, 2011 4:33:45 PM

haha... I think my best bet is to buy a 570 for right now, by the time BF3 comes out, they will probably have come down in price, buy another one and SLI it and I should be good to go.

I'll put it this way: Very few setups can maintain 50+FPS in BC2 maxed. As such, I doubt any current setup could max BF3 at launch.

People forget how BF2 broke everything when it released...

Honestly, I doubt it'll be any more demanding than Crysis (1) or Metro 2033. If you can run those games at max then BF3 should too, or at worst go down to 2xAA or whatever.

I didn't play BC2 on PC so I can't really say.

I have an i5 2500k at stock with turbo boost to 3.8 ghz and a evga gtx 570 and i can run bfbc everything as high as it can go at 1080 and i got 65 up to 100 fps and even when theres a lot of explosions and hella AI it dips into the mid 50's at LOWEST. i single 570 should run bf3 at meduim setting decently and high setting sround 30-40fps i thinkin
