Hello,
I'm converting some HD videos and the average core temprature across all cores on my 2600K is 74 degrees C with all cores at 100% usage.

Is this an OK temprature and will running the CPU at this temprature for extended periods of time (2-4 Hours) have any degrading or detrimental effect on the CPU?

Specs:
I7-2600K stock clock
Stock intel cooler
Gigabyte P67 motherboard (factory settings)

First, from what I've heard Intel's stock cooler isn't hat good. Replace it. Those are high temps but I think i7 will handle 80C. Maybe some who have it can tell you max values.

But get a new cooler.

Ye, planning on replacing it soon, just wondered if running it at those temps for a few hours would hurt it in anyway. Any recomendations on a non-expensive cooler? I was thinking maybe a coolermaster hyper 212 plus would do the job.

for a stock 2600k the 212 is overkill (but good if you plan some OCing). If not, go for the cheaper TX3 by cooler Master. It uses the same mounting set up as the stock cooler (push pins) so no need for stalling back plates. Its also shorter, so it will fit in nearly every mid tower case.

Will most likely overclock plus its better to have the option, so will go with something like the 212, looks like therss enough room in my case, HAF 912 PLUS.

If you dont mind a little work, the 212 will be all you need. My brother's PC has a AMD 1055t OC'ed to 3.5GHZ with just TX3 (his case didnt have a backplate cutout, so didnt want to yank the mobo out) and it colls just fine, a good 15C lower than stock at load (stock cooler could not handle OC).
