I have about $500 to spend on a graphics card for my AMD build and was wondering which of the following would be better:

3-way ATI 5770's

or

one 6970

Please do not reply telling me to use Nvidia as I do not like Nvidia!

In my opinion you always start with a single card solution, and then upgrade in the future when you need to to dual card setups.

We need to know the rest of your system, and what resolution you play at to really help you though.

With 500 dollars I'd get 2 6950s 2GB and unlock them to 6970s.

I'd much rather have 2 6950s 2GB than a single 6970 or triple 5770s.

imo you should firstly get one 6950, it will always be better than 3x5770,
1. you have more memory
2. you can unlock it and gain performance boost
3. there are only few things that support CF, and less that support 3 way CF
if one 6950 won't be enough you can always get a second one or flash it into 6970

good choice, they perform like 570s and can be flashed into 6970s, which perform like 580s, BUT be aware, it voids warranty

Ok nice to know! A friend of mine wants to know what the power consumption of 3-way gtx 470's would be with a 470 seperate on dedicated physics mode so all together four 470's?

Why would they add something to a card that if you use it it voids warranty?!! Retartded in my opinion but I have recently found a 5970 for under $450 brand new so I will use that instead, then if I need to upgrade I will just Crossfire another 5970 with either a Silverstone Stryder, Thermaltake or Corsair 1200w PSU!

Thanks for the help anyways.
