GTX 460 question bottleneck

What Intel CPU is it? I doubt it'd bottleneck the GTX 460 regardless, but I'm just curious. Also, what PSU model do you have specifically? 500 W is for the whole system, and normally nVidia recommends a greater wattage than in reality just to compensate for those using cheaper PSUs which don't actually deliver anywhere near 500 W. Check your PSU model. RAM is fine, 4 GB wouldn't be a bottleneck.

The Q8000 series aren't the best C2Qs, but they're far more than enough I guess. Being an 80+ PSU means it's not a too-low end class PSU. It delivers 30 A in total to the 12 V rail of your system, 360 W max for the 12 V rail which should be sufficient for a C2Q Q8400 and GTX 460 system. I'd try and avoid overclocking though, just to be safe.

Hey im thinking about buying gtx 460 1GB to play high end games. it needs 500w minimum psu. i have a 500w psu, intel quad core 2.66ghz processor 4gb ddr3 ram. will any of this specs bottleneck gpu performance

YOur CPU has enough power. But your PSU... It´s a quality PSU, that´s true, but I would go for a ATI 5770.
