Just overclocked for the first time on stock cooling, the temps are hanging around 81C but are jumping to 84 occasionally.

Is this safe? I'm running prime95 right now, and there's no crashing.

edit: I'm using coretemp and talking about the cores.

Thats ridiculously high, you should definitely get yourself an aftermarket cooler. And even on stock cooling, that's crazy that you would get such absurdly high temps.

I have an H50 cooler on my i7-930 overclocked to 3.9Ghz doesn't get to 70C.
Stays in low 40C most of the time.

That would be the temps i expect with the crappy stock cooler alongside running prime95. Get a good aftermarket cooler like the CM212+ and call it a day.

a CM212+ is nice, there other xigmatek coolers that perform the same and sometimes cheaper. just make sure your case can fit these cooler cuz these things are huge.

you can use a cooler master TX-3 its the smaller version of the 212+ these will usually fit most cases.

That's high, but it's the stock cooler so it's expected. What are you running for voltage as read in cpu-z while in prime95?
