Hi Friends,
I want to buy a decent VGA card for my pc. But have confusions whether my specs support them.
(plz dont laugh :)

Intel pentium D (3Ghz)
2GB Ram
19' LCD Monitor
450W standard rated PSU

currently a proud owner of geforce 6200 :)

Thinking of these Cards (which are available for me)

HD 5670 DDR5 512MB
GT 240 DDR3 1GB

Will my Pc handle these cards???
Which one is Good?, any alternatives?
Plz Help.

Thanks Friends.

Solution
On your processor there won't be too much of a performance difference among the GT 240/HD5570/HD5670. You also might want to look at the HD4670, GT 430 or 96/9800GT depending on what the prices/availability are like where you are. Just get the cheapest of the above cards you can find.
With the two HD5000 cards specifically try to avoid PCI-E 2.1 versions of the card as they can have issues with older motherboards like yours.

Thanks Bro, I checked hd 5570, seems like a good card.
Will it run without any trouble?

If yes i will surely go for it.

My first choice was to go with GT220, but after following some forums i found GT240(which is just a little expensive than GT220), Then HD 5670(just a liitle than GT240).......i know the list will grow like this :)

mainly i wana play NFS games
I've done Most wanted & Carbon with my 6200 :O

If 5570 can handle shift & Hot persuit (even on medium), That's perfect for Me :)

Thanks alot for the Quick reply.
Wow, this is a great forum :)

Yes, the 5570 can handle these kind of games on medium-high.

GT220<<HD 5570<GT240<HD 5670

Wow Thanks,
I checked the price of hd5570 in my country(Srilanka)........It's more than GT240 DDR3, coz it's a new card i think.
hd5670 also not far away.
Now, if i can get hd5670 just for little more, Shall i go for it or Stay with hd5570 considering my CPU?
Or shall i go for gt240 DDR3 (no DDR5 found) which is less expensive than both?

Thanks for the Support Bro :)

Either Card Means
HD5670 or HD5570
OR
HD5670 or GT240 DDR3 (sorry i didnt understand)

Can i get links to see the Benchmarks of GT240 DDR3 (Not DDR5)?
Where it stands?
is this correct? HD5570 < GT240 DDR3 < GT240 DDR5 < HD5670

Will i be able to play NFS Shift & Hot Pursuit in Medium settings with GT240 DDR3 on my Pentium D?

Thanks a Lot :)

Hi jyjjy (Nice name)
Thanks for that info :)

Does anyone know whether my MoBo supports PCI-E 2.1 Cards like HD5570 or HD5670?

INTEL D945GCCR

I'm currently using Geforce 6200 Turbo Cache (PCI-Express 16X)
I'm almost convinced my self to go for HD5670 :)

Also, power consumption wise, will my PSU enough for HD5670?
450W Normal PSU

Thanks for the support Guys, Sorry for the trouble :)

Thanks Bro :)
But it's a Normal one, not branded or anything, some say standard ones dont deliver 450W, just around 250W :(

Considering my PSU/CPU im now thinking of HD5570
So, if anyone who tested a PCI-E 2.1 card (like HD5570) on Intel D945GCCR, Please let me know :)
That's the only thing stopping me from Buying.

Thanks Friends :)

The psu should be ok. None of the cards mentioned need an external power connector(except for earlier models of the 9800GT) which means they all use less than 75w. Even on a poor 450w they should be fine.
I can't tell you about the motherboard + HD5570. Sometimes they are ok with older 1.0 motherboards and sometimes they just won't work. I would play it safe and just get one of the other cards mentioned unless you are seeing a really good deal on the HD5570.

Shall i go for GT240 DDR3???
(i couldnt find GT240 DDR5 & HD4670 'AND' HD5570 & HD5670 with PCI-E 2.0 in my Country)
(GT430, 9600GT & 9800GT are more Expensive in my country)

Im waiting for the Approval :)

DO NOT get the PCI-E 2.1 card. My friend had the same motherboard in a pre-built Gateway computer. A 5670 2.1 did not work, but the 2.0 did. Intel has not released a BIOS fix yet to update it and, I doubt they will.
