AMD to Intel worries!

Last response: in Systems

Hello

I thinking about the following configuration and its Intel?
I friend of mine has this and he said it's a total scream! Loves it, its the best system he has had.

My hesitation is that for years all I have been a loyal AMD user. Right now I have just a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ and the thought of changing to the dark side troubles me. :)

If I stay with AMD I'm thinking about something starting with the:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

If I do a total switch to INTEL my friends system is:

GIGABYTE GA-P67A-UD4-B3 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
$180

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K
$314

Kingston HyperX 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX
$170

Suggestions... Insight... Anyone?

Thank you!

whats your current mobo, certain AM2+ mobos support AM3 CPUs which would save you ALOT of cash, (you would only have to drop in the new CPU, and not have to go through the trouble of reinstalling the OS).

no need to switch to darkside!!
If I were you I would buy this 990fx mobo which will be compatible with the new amd processors coming out next month. And get the amd phenom II be 965 for now. It's 120 if you include the $15 instant rebate code.
Wait a few months til the prices of new amd processors (zambezi) come down, buy one, sell the 965 and blow away your friends i5

Maybe. Either way, you will have a fast system.
