So this is my desktop: http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-570/pd
And it says that it has these slots; PCIe x16(1), PCIe x 1(1), PCI(2)

Even though they are PCIe 2.0 or 2.1, can I use any of these cards in the PCIe x16 slot?

yes, that mobo has a PCI-E 2.0 slot. realize a few things on all those cards.

you will need two empty slots to install them and a PSU upgrade to run them. also if you have the Athlon II X2 245 CPU, you will not notice any difference between the 6850 or 6870. In fact an ATI 5770 would be more then enough for that CPU. If you have the Sempron 140, then the CPU is too weak for modern PC games.

I have the Athlon II X4 processor so bottlenecking won't really be a problem

So if all these cards require two slots, will they not be compatible with my motherboard?

no there is only one male tab that goes into the PCI-E x16 port on your mobo. im talking about the back of the case as such

Oh those. I have an integrated HD 4200 on there right now, so all the 4 "slots" are open. There's no dedicated graphics card installed in the computer at all.

The motherboard looks kind of like this;

http://www.redplanettrading.com/ebay/motherboards/ry206...

The 4 slots for the DVI/HDMI ports are all open

So if I upgrade the PSU to something around 600w, I'll be able to install this card, no problem right?

actually the antec HCG 520w (linked above) and 620w are both on sale at microcenter. those two PSU along with the antec 520w neo are all based off seasonic platforms.

How about this one?

530w and only $40...

if you stick a paper clip in its 24pin connector, it will make a fine paper weight with a cool blue LED. get the xigmatek, its bronze efficient, more power on its 12v rail, and it can deliver 500w with no issue all for the same price. i doubt that raid max can deliver 400w.

..lol nice analogy. but yeah, i get you. i was skeptical of that PSU as well which is why I asked. So would I be able to buy both a 6850 and the xigmatek under $200?

ive owned asus cards and never had an issue but sapphire and HIS are fine. Sapphire I believe makes/sells more AMD cards then anyone else. HIS has good cards but their customer service has been known to be bad. frankly, get the cheapest one.

lol good advice but shouldn't i be looking out for warranties and such?

or are they all good enough that it doesnt matter?
April 7, 2011 1:53:56 AM

oh and what about Powercolor?

warranties help depending on how often you upgrade. powercolor is also a fine company.

I guess I'll be upgrading in about 2 years again..but I might want to sell it then so I don't really know lol

Oh one last question!
Will I be able to use a PCIe x16 2.1 graphics card on this motherboard?
a c 235 U Graphics card
April 7, 2011 4:36:44 AM

yes, 2.1 cards will work in 2.0 slots
April 7, 2011 4:42:17 AM

but this motherboard only has a regular pcie x16 slot
April 7, 2011 10:33:38 PM

Oh ok then, got it.
Thanks again! I have a question about multiple monitors but I'll be making a new topic for that
