Dividing a group of computers on a lan

Hello I need an advice. I have a bunch of computers on one LAN with internet access and would like to separate them into two groups that don`t see each other`s shares but both share the internet access {router}. Creating two domains is unfortunately not an option here. Would subnetting work in this case? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes a subnet will work, but you need to configure your switches to not pass traffic between them. You did not list your network hardware, so had to say what you can and can't do.
