Connect wifi printer to wireless laptop

my laptop uses a 3dongle,my printer is an hp deskjet 3000 with wifi capability. How do I get the two to connect wirelessly?

The printer's manual should have something to say about this. I've worked on a few HPs and I think the little onscreen menu allows you to enter the SSID and wireless security key - some more advanced models might be capable of searching. You could try XP's Control Panel>Printers and Faxes and Add a Printer>Add Network printer but I doubt it will see it until the printer has paired with your wireless network.

Thanks for trying for me but the it would appear to be impossible using a laptop dongle; software downloads ok but no connection between the two machines can be be made.

Are you saying you use a 3G dongle? Does your laptop have built-in WiFi? If so, you can connect to your printer using Ad Hoc mode with your WiFi adapter.
