Hard drive not recognized in new build

I built a pc and everything seems to be working, except that the BIOS in my motherboard says no drive detected in all SATA ports except my optical disc drive even though I have an HDD. When I try to install Windows 7, it only shows a 3.9 GB unallocated space that can't be used to install the OS, my HDD is nowhere to be found. How can I get the HDD to be recognized so that I can install my OS and use the computer? I have an ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3 motherboard and a Seagate Barracuda 500 GB HDD.

This must be a trivial question but can you confirm if both SATA data and power cables are properly connected?

Either the above case or the drive is busted.

Maybe it is connected to the third party SATA controller that you need to enable in BIOS! Or you can try a different connector.
