I am wanting to build up a system for CAD work. Namely Rhino3d with VRay and Vectorworks. I am torn between a workstation and a high end desktop. I have the following priced (this is a custom build from a company - can change anything I want):

Intel Core I7 2600 3.4GHZ CPU
8GB Ram DDR3 1333Mhz (2x 4GB)
Nvidia GTX 560 1024MB video card
Internal USB Multicard reader
Seagate 1TB 5900rpm SATA HDD
22x DVD Writer
Intel DH67CL motherboard
750W power supply
Gigabyte case with 4 x 5 ¼’ 5 x 3 ½” bays Front USB/Sound ports

Viewsonic VX2450 23.6” LED monitor
Logitech Optical wheel mouse
Logitech Multimedia keyboard

MS Windows 7 Hime Premium 64-Bit OEM
NOD 32 Antivirus 90-day trial version.

How would this stack up against a workstaion of equvilant costs? this is about New Zealand$2400 (US$1900).

Also thinking about whether to change the graphics card to a Matrox M-series (for other reasons).

I don't know much about Workstations but what are peoples thoughts????

Cheers
Mike

You could make it cheaper by making your own build.

Intel Core I7 2600 3.4GHZ CPU
8GB Ram DDR3 1600Mhz (2x 4GB)
Nvidia GTX 560 Ti 1024MB video card
Internal USB Multicard reader
High performance hdd such as WD Black or Samsung F3.
22x DVD Writer
Asrock P67 Extreme 4 (or Z68 if you really need integrated GPU)
750W power supply (only good brand like Corsair TX/HX, seasonic...)
COOLER MASTER HAF 912 or better (would stay away from gigabyte cases)
