Hi, I'm building a new gaming set, and I would like to know that which CPU is better for my budget (about $1000 leaving out the monitor)
I know that AMD's CPU are much cheaper, but I'm going to play lots of RTS games and probaply BF3. I've heard that the performance of CPU is very important for these games.
The Video Card I'm going to buy is a HD6950 2GB, which CPU is better for me? (I may consider overclocking the CPU)

More about : 1000 budget amd intel

Best solution

a b à CPUs

If you have the money, the i-5 2500k is the choice of most gamers.

I don't know about you but I do care about my Hydro Bill to an Extent. I don't like purchasing a product that performs similar to another but takes 40% or more power. With that in mind I stay away from nVIDIA high end GPUs and I see that you're doing just that which is a + in my book (at least until nVIDIA get their act together that is).

I would couple a 6950 2GB with an Intel Z68 based motherboard and an Intel Core 2500K processor (built one recently and it works rather well).

Motherboard wise I've had some luck with some of the cheaper version such as the Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B and one highend version being the ASUS Maximus IV GENE-Z Z68 which is mATX though but a great board.

So to answer your question... 2500K for sure.
