So my friend asked me to recomened him a build for a new gaming computer, so i set him up with a good sub par 1k build, but he got someone elses outside advice telling him he needs 16gb of ram and a 1200w psu and a after market cpu cooler (no overclocking will be done on this either)
I know this is his computer and he can build whatever he wants, but i could use your guys help convincing him this powersupply is overkill and for gaming he doesnt need 16gb of ram. (ill be directing him to this post) And that he can get a lot more bang for his buck!!
He can check out the builds in the recommended stickies up top, that may help but yes,
Gaming pc currently
i5 2500 (2500k for overclocking)
h67 Mobo (p67 or z68 if clocking)
wouldn't bother with network card tbh
4Gb ram is plenty for gaming, 8 doesn't hurt though especially if he does any editing, music/video etc on there
6950's a good card, I'm getting two myself soon
Corsair TX650w psu
case of choice
ssd good, get a better one though I'm sure someone can recommend a better unit
and your build totes a monitor too,
if its straight between those two, I vote yours, but we can build a better gamebox for well under a K if you are willing to roll up the sleeves and get nerdy
Agree with above. Skip the killer network card, go to I5 2500K and 2x4GB ram is plenty. 320GB is a small HDD today I personally would not buy less than 500GB preferably 1TB. System would run fine on quality 550watt PSU.
No problem, we spend a lot of our 'lives' on here anyhow hehe
best bet is fill this in http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261222-13-build-adv...
post it in a new thread 'haylp 1k build' or similar, as this thread may not get the interest you need,
but spell out the preferences, budget, uses etc for us and I'm sure you'll get a fair few builds coming,
2500k is the intel beast atm and 955 is the amd choice imo,
unless overclockings not going to happen in which case the 2500 and the 980 respectively
