GAMMA Classic Series ATX Mid Tower
evga Nvidia geforce gt 240

im getting temps with speedfan and core temp

General use, browsing internet, youtube, editing videos and pics.
Cpu: 16c
Gpu: 34c

Under heavy load, BFBC2, browsing internet, HD video and pic rendering, uploading, youtube. (not all at once or all the time lol)
Cpu: 30c max
Gpc: 60c max

Your point? You have an aftermarket cooler that can handle a tdp of 130W on a 95W rated part that is already known to run cool. I've got the same cooler on an Athlon II X4 640 and get almost identical temps, 17C idle and 38C load.

Speedfan? Lolz..

Anyways.. what he says is true. There is literally no way you can have your CPU temp under ambient temp with air cooling. Just plain impossible.

Download and run coretemp to see your true temperatures.

I've got the same problem. I'm using three different temp monitors, HWMonitor, CoreTemp and Speed Fan. All display imposibly low CPU temps. 15c idle 30c load, ambient temp is 21c.

system specs

Athlon IIx2 260 (stock clock and cooler)
Gigabyte GA 880GMA-UD2H
Patriot G series Sector 5 2x2GB DDR3 1333
Seagate 500GB
XFX HD-5670
Corsair CX430 V2

I previously had a Phenom IIx4 955 BE on the same motherboard. Temps were in a normal range, Low 30s idle high 40s load.

Check your temps in BIOS, if that is reading it as below room temp either your motherboard has a bad temp chip, or the thermocouple on the chip is giving false readings, it may be an indication of something else being bad as well so you may need to RMA. I would check BIOS then give your motherboard maker a call.

Point is the laws of thermodynamics are inviolate ...... 16C is below normal room temperature (16C = 60.8F / 17C = 62.6F)

You can adjust the offset in Coretemp so temps reach normals :)

I didn't know I could do that, Thanks! If I had bothered to read the Core Temp FAQs I would have known. I would have also read this;

"Why is the temperature of my Phenom based processor lower than the ambient temperature?
Starting with the Phenoms, AMD's digital sensor no longer reports an absolute temperature value anymore, but a reading with a certain offset, which is unknown. It is estimated that this offset is between 10 - 15c."

Explains alot dosn't it?
