Replace 4890 with 6950? flashing 6950 to 6970 still viable option?

Hey guys, my tax return came in, and im about to sell an old comp and bike and was thinking of picking up a 6950 2gig to replace my current 4890 1 gig. my questions are as follows
1. is this a worth while upgrade?
2. would i still be able to flash my 6950 to a 6970 or did ATI\AMD kinda nullify that some how? (also best place to find directions)
3. how was your day?

my specs are:

CPU: AMD phenom 955 x4 (not overclocked)
mother board: gigabyte GIGABYTE GA-770T-USB3
8 gigs of ram
850 watt antec power supply
a bunch of harddrives
all that inside a COOLER MASTER HAF X RC-942-KKN1 Black Steel/ Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Yes, it will be a decent upgrade.
Somewhere around 50%-200% depending on game.
Yes, flashing is a viable option but be sure to get the 2GB version of the 6970.
The 1GB versions DO NOT flash.
