I'm looking to upgrade my system a little. I have a evga 460 1gb right now and am thinking about going sli 460 or buying one 6950. I mostly game and am wondering what would be better. Any help would be great. Thanks!
If you scrool down the page to BF2 results at 1920x1200, you can see a pair of GTX460's besting a single 6950 and a GTX570, defeating the former w/ 76 fps vs. 61 fps....
If your existing MB and PSU are SLI ready, it's a pretty sensible option, IMO....
pair of GTX 460s *1GB* can beat even the GTX 580, but there are a lot of issues with having SLI/CF, 6950 would be a better choice if you hadn't had that 460, imo get 2 460s, they will be cheaper to get than a 6950 and perform better, but they won't be as future-proof as 6950 and maybe will have some issues...
Get the HD6950 and use the GTX460 to do PhysX. It will take a hack, but Google should be able to find it; I haven't done it yet myself so I don't have a link.
What kinda performance increase are you looking for? Honestly, 1 gtx 460 can play any game at high details right now except maybe crisis 2. The only benefit of getting sli or a 6950 is playing games on a multi monitor setup. So, if you're not gonna purchase another 2 monitors, an upgrade would be a waste of money.
I agree with Savag3Vim ... except the thing about crysis 2, that game is pretty easy to run....
Also over-clocking the 460 will give you great results, it can be taken easily from 675 to 800 at the very least, use msi afterburner its easy
I have mine at 940 with an increase in voltage (+100mV) (again with msi afterburner), you can reach even 6870/gtx470 levels at this clock
oh and the memory is also easily over clocked from 1800 to 2100...
After all these FREE tweaks that take less than 10 minutes to apply you are still unhappy then go ahead and buy a second 460 or whatever
Ok, so I got the second 460. It was birthday gift. So it was all too much about the money for me. Just didn't want something too expensive. I am running pretty well. I get up to about 80c max on the main card. I spoke with evga who said that was normal with the EE cards. My case does not have a side panel (corsair 800d) but am hoping to cut one in the window right near the gpu's to make it a little cool. Thank you all for your help. I seem to be running everything on max with great fps. If you guys have any advice on an easier way to cool down the gpus that would be great. Thanks again.
