Hi, forum!

I'm currently using two 6970 in crossfire. I'm trying to upgrade my graphics card.
I was initially thinking of buying two of gtx580 phantom 3gb version, but 590 looks pretty decent and few hundred bux cheaper.
Which one would give me the maximum performance?

would buying dual gpu chip graphics card be better off than 6970 cf?

I'll be looking forward to the response =]

Thank you!

6970 CF is more or less the same as 580SLI, 590 is worse than both of them and 6990 is better than 590, imo better stay with what you got,

590 < 6990 < 580SLI =< 6970CF

do not go gtx580tri sli it is a waste of money comeon man be logical
be smart...

why spend 1500usd for gtx580trisli while 6970trifire costs 1000usd and
matches it most. yeah you heard it right. 6970trifire score pretty close
to gtx580tri sli for 500usd less.. with that money you can buy 2xocz vertex3 ssds

here is trifire/trifire scaling article where amd beats nvidia
you can also try 6990 + 6970 which will beat gtx580sli by good margin at the sameprice

god sometimes tomshardware email notification just fails...lol
my native resolution is 1080p x3(individual 1920x1080 res on 3 screens), and when gaming its 5760x1080. >.<
I actually might stay with 6970. Doesn't seem to be worth spending like half a thousand dollaz for slightly better gaming performance.

IF i go dual 590 or 6990 later, would games take benefit of having four gpu?

@Dadiggle:
1. there was some sarcasm in my words

probably not, there are only few games that support SLI/CF and less that support 3-way/Quad, i believe only the games that will come out 2011+ will be supported with Quad-SLI/CF, imo both of them are awful:
590 blows up, worse performance than 6990, more expensive, produces lots of heat, is beaten by 570s
6990 produces lots of heat, is very noisy etc, is beaten by 6970s

Since catalyst 10.4 Amd tweaked their drivers where they sort of cheated with the default driver setting where quality was sacrificed for performance to carve out more frame rates. Benchmarks don't pick that up as they set it on the optimize defaults. So be careful buying according to benchmarks. User experiences is always better as where you get the real world performances of hardware plus the bad and the good side of it. Just search the piece of hardware followed by problems to get the cons. There's hundreds of hardware forums with actually user experiences.

because you can't actually run tri-fire 6970's without melting the card in the middle http://www.anandtech.com/show/4254/triplegpu-performanc...
