Computer turns on for a second but stops

I recently built a computer, but after I had plugged every thing in and started it up, the fans only spun for a second and then everything stopped. Anyone know what the problem could be?


Here are my specs
CPU= AMD Athlon
1 GB PC2 Kingston Memory
Hard Drive= 200Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.9
Mother Board= MSI K9AGM2
Power supply= POWMAX Assassin

My first guess would be the PSU.

If it is the 500 watt model, it only has a 17 amp 12volt rail. A modern 500 watt PSU should have at least a 35 amp 12 volt rail.
