So I am installing new memory sticks into a GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H Mobo "http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128435" . One problem I do not understand is why "DDR3 1800 (Only support DIMM3,DIMM4)" as it is listed at the GIGABYTE support site (download a pdf compatible Memory modules page) what it does not say is what is compatible for the DIMM1,DIMM2 ? Now the mobo does support dual channel and lists them as channel 0 = DDR3_1 and DDR3_3 then channel 1= DDR3_2 and DDR3_4. Does that mean if I install a matched set in dimm 1 and 2 that they will NOT be in dual channel mode ? Why are the dual channels separated instead of being in order like 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 ?

Solution
It differs based on manufacturer, yours;
Channel 0 slots 1 and 3
Channel 1 slots 2 and 4
Default slot 3
Default dual channel 2 sticks slots 3 and 4, 1800MHz reachable
Four sticks all slots in dual channel. In this mode 1800MHz not reachable.
