I don't understand how the new Sandy E i7-3930K november is going to be almost $500 cheaper.
Clock speeds are faster with the turbo
Can someone please explain in simple and complex terms? Thanks!

Also is it true the Ivy Bridge series will be 1155 socket and compatible with the 79x? Would be a treat

a core 2 quad 9550 is also more expensive than the much faster 2500k. the 990x is a dead end for a dead socket, they would have made only a small amount of them therefore they are more expensive. It is true that SOME of the ivy bridge CPU's will be 1555 compatable, supporting motherboard manufacturers say it will require a firmware upgrade, but higher end models will have a new socket.

There is no new socket for Ivy Bridge. And for Ivy Bridge E, it will probably be LGA2011 compatable. There will be two new chipsets for Ivy Bridge, H77 and Z78. But Ivy Bridge will work with all existing 6 series chipsets. Its just up to the mobo maker to update the BIOS for that.
