Hi,

I've decided that I want to get a GBA flash cart and have been reading
several reviews (including the article covering various flash carts tests on
the DS). Before deciding on any particular cart, thought I'd ask here for
recommendations.

I don't need a large cart as I'm only planning to use it for NES emulation.
In fact, I'll probably only be using the cart with one GBA rom that I
recently put together with the specific NES roms I'm wanting to be able to
play. The file size of this compile is just under 2 MBytes (or 16 MBits).

All I'm wanting is just something reliable that this single GBA rom can be
stored on. Write speed isn't important, as I probably won't be rewriting to
do it anyway. Just something small and simple, that works with both the GBA
and DS. Probably be playing it mainly on the DS, but I have a GBA-SP that I
can use to write to it. Something relatively not too expensive would be
ideal. :^)

Also, does NES emulation run smoothly on the GBA? I've been playing this
GBA rom (with the NES roms) on my laptop using a GBA emulator
(VisualBoyAdvance). Emulation inside emulation, but works great.

I have a 256 Flash2Advance and a 1GB Ultra , both are highly recommended,
the ULTRA does not require to recharge in order to save games.
I have not experienced problems with any, although never tried to use NES
emulation.

They both work very well on my DS.

Little larger (and more $) than I was hoping for (especially that 1GB
Ultra!).. I was actually hoping for something like 32Mbits or even 16Mbits,
as I won't be needed that much room for NES. I don't foresee using a flash
for any GBA games.

I'm assuming 64Mbits is is the smallest they come? Pricewise, it would make
more sense to just get a 128Mbit, as they seem to only be like $30 more.
The big jump in price I'm seeing is between 128Mbit and 256Mbit, and of
course -- to that awesome 1GB Ultra that you have. :^)

I haven't started reading much about any "non-gaming" GBA stuff out there.
Is there much "cool stuff" to do with a GBA other than emulation. (Say,
like perhaps organizers and stuff like that?) If so, going up to 256Mbit
may be attactive.

Thanks!

Where did you read the reviews? My flash card "Flash Advance 64M" doesn't
fit in my DS!!! Anyone else have this issue?

Hi,

I've been mainly reading from the following:

GBA Flash Compatibility with DS Test Results:
http://www.gameboy-advance.net/nintendo_ds/nds_flash_card.htm

A few reviews, plus really good forums:
http://www.gbadev.org/hardware.php

List of various links:

Cheers!

I don't like the text that reads...

"Flash2Advance cards will work if you take them apart to make them fit
properly"?!?

Why would the Flash2Advance card need to be altered, since the card
dimensions are exactly identical to a normal GBA cartridge?

Anyone?

I was actually wondering that myself. That particular website said that it
wouldn't physically fit without modification, but you stated in a previous
post that it works fine.

I was wondering that particular website misreported which actual card it
was. From looking at some other reviews and pictures, it appears that the
"Flash Advance" (first generation, I presume) is larger than a standard GBA
card -- while the "Flash2Advance" appears to have the same dimensions.
Wondering if they meant "Flash Advance" and not "Flash2Advance"...

I'm leaning towards just a 128 Mbit Much larger than what I need for just
NES emulation, but pricewise it makes sense just to go with 128 Mbit over 64
since they are only like $30 more. Looked at some off the "non-gaming"
applications, but figured I have two PDA's anyway...
