I7 2600k failure?

Hi -- I just replaced my platform -- my 1st Intel build!!

Components are as follows:

i7 2600k
ASUS P8Z68-V LX
16 GB Corsair dominator 1600 @1.5v (set to stock settings)
OCZ 600w power supply
ATI 5850

All components are set at stock settings in BIOS.

My question -- when I run intel burn test (v2.52) on max everything seems to be fine but when I open up task manager to check and see how the cores are running one thread is at zero usage. All of the other 7 threads vary in usage (I imagine this is a function of the testing program) but one thread stays at zero and doesn't move until the next test cycle starts.

Once the test cycle starts all 8 threads are at 100% for a short time and then one thread drops to zero and the other 7 start varying in usage.

This is my first intel build -- I am used to AMD chips -- so does the one core operating at zero constitute a test failure?

Try prime 95. run 8 instances and check the task manager. You're fine. The chances of getting a defective hyperthread pipeline are near 0.

And congrats on the new system. Sandy Bridge is a beautiful thing.
