Money back.

The 5850 performs better than the 6850. The true successor of the 5850 is probably the 6950. AMD did a little restructuring of their product line, so the top-of-the-line is x9xx, not x8xx. The 6850 is probably worth 200 USD (~140EUR).

I think they're trying to rip you off on warranty.

you're right i ment the 6950! lol thats worth 300 euros in the shop i got my 5850 for 300 euros, so i guess its a fair trade?

yeah 6950 for a dead 5850 is more than fair, the 6950 is more or less a 2gig 5870, although the above poster is right about the name restructuring but the 6950 def performs better than a 5850

5870: 1600 streams
6950: 1408 streams
5870 has more muscle, but 6950 has better architecture and it performs a lot better than 5870, it's a great deal for you, and probably 6870 was better than 5850

yeah pretty much overall the 6950 is the strongest out of any of the cards mentioned, now if your talking about a 2 gig reference model (6950) then that likely has the highest potential if you are able to unlock it to a 6970 and oc a bit that will be blazing fast and start to flirt with the gtx 580 level of performance at 1080p

Okay, in that case, take the deal. A 6950 for a 5850 is a good deal.

The 6950 is better than the 5870 in a number of ways. The 5870 was a power guzzler, and reviews pointed to the 5850 as the better of the bunch. Also, the new architecture is better suited for current games, and you can only expect improvements through subsequent driver upgrades.

You'll most likely get a 2GB model, so that'll probably be useful at very high resolutions with AA. Additionally, you can try performing an unlock which makes the 6950 run a bit more like the 6970, although personally I'll save that for when the card runs out of warranty (if ever).

It's a good deal. The new card should have warranty too, right?

OP:

yeah in the a 6950 for a 5850 is a great exchange that I think any 5850 owner would jump on if they were in your shoes

Thanks alot for your comments guys its helped alot. Looks like il be taking my dead card to get replaced asap! i play all my games at max res/settings (2048x1152), so the 2gb 6950 is sure to be working nice!

yeah for that res I would def be trying to unlock or overclock the 6950 if you want to max games at 2048X1152 with med AA and AF settings...

well i didnt need to OC on the 5850 tbh, 150fps is enough for me. i guess as games get more extreme i will have to

yeah well it all depends on what game your playing at what settings Im sure there are many games that the 5850 will not produce 150 fps at 20X11 currently, just saying whatever floats your boat

fair enough jjb... another quick question, ive checked online and see the same card for alot cheaper.. i mean is 300 euro (£260) alot for this card? i google it and find it from as cheap as £170. ebuyer is a site i trust i mean look..

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/250400?utm_source=google&...

VS

http://www.computerland.nl/ProductDetails.aspx?en=80001...

so maby i should try get money and then buy it from ebuyer..but the thing is on the dutch site it says 3 year warrenty but on ebuyer it says nothing about it

whats everyone think?

it is better than the 5850 but not by a huge margin, nonetheless... it is a fair exchange and a great gpu at that...
