Would some kind soul recommend a newer hard drive replacement
for a Satellite 1805-S274 (I prefer a 5400 speed)
can the newer ATA-5 or 6 replace the old ATA-4
Thanks

The DMA mode for the drive is dependent on the DMA mode of the IDE bus
on the laptop, and that is fixed by hardware. A new drive will only
function at the laptop's design DMA level whatever that is; ATA-4 might
be the limit. Secondly, the BIOS will limit the size of drive the
laptop will support. Check Toshiba support to verify the BIOS
limitation for this laptop. Otherwise, Hitachi makes, IMO, very good
laptop drives.
